Attend the Black Spaces exhibit at OMCA (admission required) and write at least one complete page (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, one inch margins, docx or pdf, do not submit link to external document) that addresses each of the following four prompts that each address a different part of the exhibit.
- Homeplace: Based on what you see in this part of the exhibit, what factors caused Black Americans to move their families?
- Social Fabric: How might being pushed out of your home and neighborhood impact your sense of belonging in the world?
- Artist: What feelings or memories does Adrian Burrell’s installation, Electric Slide, bring up for you? How do the images of family, movement, and celebration connect to your own life or community?
- The Archive of Urban Futures: How do you think present-day Oakland has been shaped by Black communities?
