Introducing the Struggle for Ethnic Studies

 Introducing the Struggle for Ethnic Studies

Ethnic Studies is the study of race, ethnicity, and Indigeneity.

It focuses on the lives and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

This field values the voices of communities that were ignored in traditional education.

Ethnic Studies is interdisciplinary.

This means it uses ideas from many subjects, not just one.

It challenges systems of power and domination in society.

It also questions the traditional “canon” that decides whose knowledge matters.

Ethnic Studies did not begin with one person or one book.

It grew from long struggles by communities of color and Indigenous peoples.

Students, activists, and communities worked together to demand change in education.

I learned that Ethnic Studies is not only about history.

It is about justice, awareness, and transformation.

It helps people understand inequality and work toward a fairer society.

ethnicity = လူမျိုးရေး (လူမျိုးအုပ်စုနဲ့ ဆိုင်တဲ့ အခြေအနေ)

Ethnicity is part of a person’s identity. Ethnic Studies focuses on ethnicity and culture.
